French Inspirations for Artful Hands by Bonnie Sullivan & Kathy Schmitz
For almost a month in September, my sister Kathy Schmitz and I traveled through the French countryside. We went wherever our hearts led and were inspired with each turn of the road. Every boxwood garden, ancient concrete urn, stone stairwell and stained glass window inspired a design for the projects in this book. From the dove carving on the top of a building in the Marqueyssac Gardens, we designed our own interpretation and came up with two sweet three dimensional wool birds. The Eiffel Tower and surrounding gardens inspired the Ville De Paris quilt with pieced blocks and applique vines and bird. You will also find travel necessities to make for your next adventure; shoe sachets and cozy to keep your shoes (and suitcase) smelling nice, a jewelry roll to safely transport your rings and things. Warm woolen slippers to pamper your toes after a long day of sight seeing. The directions for all of projects are in full color and many with step by step photos and illustrations. We also stepped outside of the "quilting" box a bit and included a few paper crafting ideas. Throughout the antique stores and flea market we picked up antique letters, paintings, menus, etchings and about anything else we could get our hands on. We've scanned in the best images for you to use behind glass paper weights, in pendants for necklaces, and even images to use in making a miniature flower press to take on your next trip. Enjoy!
